The Brain Never Stops: The Power of Reading at Green Hill Academic School Library
With the help of my MLIS Capstone Team, I have been raising awareness of the vital role that libraries and reading for pleasure play, in general, as well as reading’s particular impact on the mental health and development of growing minds in youth correctional facilities through a vigorous campaign. In doing so, we:
- Educate the public about the overall benefits of reading
- Highlight the importance of meaningful library services for youth experiencing incarceration
- Direct potential donors to the Green Hill Academic School Library's Amazon Wishlist
- Build relationships with outside individuals and organizations to foster more sustainable support for the library moving forward (WLA, Books to Prisoners, UWHope, Timberland Regional Library systems, etc.)
- Create a toolkit for our sponsor to help guide and shape their future progress
- Surpassed our initial goal of 200 books purchased from the Wishlist and are now well over 300 (about $6,000 worth of materials)
